Seahaven Lioness Club

First, some history about Lioness Clubs who are part of Lions Clubs International, the largest service organisation in the world. The first club to be formed was the Mount Pleasant Club, North Carolina in 1975. The first Lioness Club in Great Britain and Ireland was formed in Pontefract in 1977. The success of the Lioness Clubs and the growth of Clubs has been impressive and there are now over 50 clubs with approximately 1000 members.
Seahaven Lioness Club was formed in 1993, and since then has grown considerably. At present, the club has around 30 members and they meet in Seaford on the second Tuesday of the month, commencing at 7.30 p.m in the Old Plough, Church Street Seaford ( 01323 872921).
Seahaven Lionesses aim to help those who are less fortunate in the community and to support charitable causes. Initially, requests for help are received by the Club’s Service Committee who discuss each case and make recommendations to the whole club.
Of course, the Lionesses have to raise the money in the first place and to this end the club has an energetic and innovative Fundraising Committee. Money is raised by the Lionesses providing refreshments at the Peacehaven Meridian Centre on various mornings throughout the year and by their bric-a-brac stalls both at the Meridian and in Broad Street, Seaford. They regularly have a stall at the Lifeboat Fete, and the NP & S Lion’s Peacehaven and Seaford Donkey Derbies. Seahaven Lionesses also organise the Seaford Carnival on the late May Bank Holiday.
Seahaven Lioness Club are holding a Quiz on Saturday 24 January 2009 at 7.30 p.m. at the St Thomas More's Church Hall, Seaford to raise money so that we may continue our work in Seaford and the surrounding area, supporting local charitable causes. Tickets priced at £3.50 including nibbles and tea/coffee. There will be a raffle. Tickets - call Seaford 899405
As well as working hard, Lionesses like to play hard and the Social Committee works diligently at providing interesting and entertaining outings. They have regular theatre outings to Brighton and Eastbourne as well as holidays, quizzes and regular Lunch and Dinner meetings.
